Is a Cochlear Implant Right for Me?

To determine if a cochlear implant is right for you or a loved one, a candidacy assessment is the first step. During the candidacy consultation, the patient is evaluated while wearing hearing aids to measure the amount of benefit they receive from the devices. If insufficient benefit is found, options for implantation are discussed.

As important as the assessment is, however, a significant part of the candidacy decision occurs through conversation with the patient and their family/support system regarding the patient’s hearing history, use of hearing aids, and communication abilities. The audiologist will also provide education to the candidate regarding basic CI functions, options in CI technology, as well as the pre- and post-operative appointment schedules.

Cochlear implant care is extremely individualized and this patient-centered care starts with the candidacy evaluation. Use the button below to get in touch with MCICE if you have any questions about the process.
