MCICE was designed with the visions of both of its contributing campuses clearly in mind.

Its multifaceted approach matches the vision of UMB “to improve the human condition and serve the public good of Maryland and society at-large through education, research, clinical care, and service.”  And its focus on educating students and advancing and sharing new knowledge in areas of importance to the State, the nation, and the world is in keeping with UMCP’s joint roles as the USM flagship and a land-grant institution.

MCICE was developed with three goals:

  1. To provide the people of Maryland with premier clinical services in the area of cochlear implants, thus improving their health and opportunities for engagement and communication
  2. To provide Maryland students with unparalleled opportunities to learn about both the science of cochlear implants and how to provide clinical services to implantees
  3. To provide the nation with new research findings that enhance our understanding of how best to improve human hearing
