The MCICE members include professionals who are:

Otologists (ENT)

  • The otologists are experts in hearing rehabilitative technology and surgical interventions for hearing loss, as well as understanding the genetic origins of the patient's loss.

Audiologists

  • The audiologists are well trained in identifying hearing loss and implementing intervention strategies which minimize the impact of the sensory deficit to provide the patient with improved access to sound through the use of various technologies (e.g. hearing aids, cochlear implants, and assistive listening devices).

Speech-Language Pathologists

  • In related work, speech-language pathologists are trained to establish and develop speech, language, and social skills within the context of the patient’s remediated hearing loss.

Through practice and academic instruction, MCICE provides interdisciplinary training for medical students, ENT residents, and audiology/speech-language pathology graduate students that incorporates the strengths of these disciplines. Professionals from related fields (i.e. special education, psychology, and social work) are also involved in didactics and clinical practice.
