José A. Ortiz is a speech-language pathologist, faculty member in the department of Hearing and Speech Sciences at the University of Maryland, College Park, and member of the Maryland Cochlear Implant Center of Excellence. He serves as the director of the Language-Learning Early Advantage Program (LEAP). He received his B.A. in Linguistics & Psychology from the University of Connecticut in 2004, and his M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2007. He has long had an interest in the processes of communication development, with a focus on bilingual language development, and technology-enhanced service delivery. He currently works with graduate and undergraduate student clinicians to provide services to preschool-age children with speech and language delays and disorders.
