Having access to sound in both ears allows for better sound localization abilities and understanding of speech in noisy situations. However, people with bilateral cochlear implants struggle greatly when trying to communicate in noisy situations and cannot localize as well as those with acoustic hearing. This research aims to understand the factors that limit these binaural hearing abilities and determine ways to change cochlear implant sound processing to improve hearing, particularly in noisy situations.
